Sky Dive! Dunkeswell, Devon - June 2014
On 21st June 2014, the world record for the most jumps performed by tandem sky divers in 24 hours was broken by 279 pairs and their support team at Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon, England.
Between dawn and dusk on a perfectly blue sky June day, using the fastest jump planes in the UK, this incredible feat unfolded over a beautiful Devon landscape.
Jumping from 15,000 feet - the highest sky dive possible without needing an oxygen supply - these brilliant volunteers and their superb expert tandem instructors fell in free fall for 60 seconds and nearly two miles at up to 120mph before their parachutes opened and they glided to the ground.
Jumping from the two Beech Craft from 6am to 10pm in a well organised event, the record previously held by Germany with 251 tandem jumpers, was well and truly broken.
Julia and Carrie raised money for Prostate Cancer and helped to break a world record at the same time - we salute you both for a great achievement!
