William Walker
Between 1906 and 1911, William worked underwater - in total darkness - within the foundations of the cathedral in water up to six metres deep, shoring up the building using 25,000 bags of concrete, 115,000 concrete blocks and 900,000 bricks.
The building was resting on peat and was in danger of sinking and collapsing.
He literally laid the foundation of a whole cathedral.
Walker died during the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918.
